The A561 Road, which stretches to include major roads such as Park Lane, is a part of Liverpool City’s major transport network, connecting Liverpool City Centre to other major areas and the A562 in the city of Widnes.
New continuous cycle route
As part of a drive to improve pedestrian andcycling facilities in the city, we created a continuous cycle route from the Baltic Triangle along Park Lane to connect with Jamaica Street. The cycle route now connectsthe existing Radial Route 10 (from Otterspool) to the proposed Liverpool CityCentre Connectivity Scheme along The Strand. An additional link to the NationalCycle Network Route 56 along Duke Street (via Forrest Street) was also created. Pedestrians now benefit from upgraded footways and street lighting, as well as improved crossing facilities.
Works included:
- Carriageway and footway resurfacing;
- An upgrade of street lighting;
- A high quality segregated hard land-scaled combined footway/cycleway;
- Improved bus stops;
- An upgrade of the existing pelican crossing near Tabley Street to a modern PUFFIN signal crossing;
- A new TOUCAN crossing near Forrest Street;
- The introduction of waiting restrictions – no waiting at any time;
- Shared use permit bays and pay and display parking bays.
These changes were funded by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Growth Deal, Sustainable Transport Enhancements Programme (STEP).
